The Bellator Champions: Joe Soto

Joe Soto sees big things happening for him in the future. He's only 22 and has already claimed the Bellator featherweight championship after winning its inaugural tournament, and boasts a perfect professional record (7-0).

The only thing that has stopped him, though, is his eyes.

Soto fought the entire Bellator tournament with fogged vision, after his eyes over-healed from Lasik eye surgery and developed some scar tissue.

He wasn't blind like the Marvel superhero Daredevil and didn't have sonar vision, but he did concede it wasn't the greatest experience in the world.

Vasquez-Davis booked for Affliction: Trilogy
Multiple sites, including MMAJunkie, MMAWeekly and Sherdog, are reporting that Javier Vasquez and LC Davis will fight on the HDNet portion of the Affliction: Triology cards.

The story was first reported by Sherdog.

Vasquez (13-2) is coming off of a debacle at the "Ultimate Chaos" card, when his fight with Din Thomas was a late scratch for multiple reasons.

Davis (13-2) lost in his last fight in Japan, after embarking on a four-fight win streak.

Antoni Hardonk thwarts robbery
Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole reported yesterday that Antoni Hardonk stopped a robbery when returning from a training session.

Iole reports that Hardonk was approached by three males, who asked Hardonk for money for cigarettes. Hardonk checked his wallet, didn't have anything to give the men, before a one of the attackers pulled out a knife.

Hardonk, who also was a bodyguard and club bouncer, remained calm and stood his ground and the men thought better of the situation and fled.

Later, Hardonk stopped the same three men from stealing another man's wallet.

Misaki plans on fighting...for free
Kazuo Misaki, who has a pleaded guilty to a crime in Tokyo for interfering with the duties of a public officie, will still fight on Aug. 2 Sengoku Ninth Battle event for free, MMAJunkie is reporting.

Misaki (21-9-2) is fighting Kazuhiro Nakamura, but will receive no pay and will not receive a title shot at Jorge Santiago.

Misaki was pulled over on March 19 for driving while talking on a cell phone, which is illegal in Japan. He tried to flee the scene and injuried a police officer's wrist, when the officer hit his wrist into Misaki's driver-side mirror.

Nakamura can still fighting for a title shot, if he defeats the former PRIDE welterweight grand prix winner.

Four Grappling Superfights Featured at The UFC Fan Expo
Rumina Sato. Fredson Paixao. Joe Stevenson. Vinicius Magalhaes. Jeff Glover. Ulysses Gomez. Bill Cooper. To those in the grappling world, the names represent the best of the best. To have them in the same hall together at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center is electrifying enough. To see them competing against each other in four Superfights that cap off the largest Submission Grappling tournament in history is something that could only be held at the UFC® Fan Expo™ on Friday, July 10th and Saturday, July 11th, just hours before the lights go down for the biggest event in mixed martial arts history, UFC 100.

In the headline Superfight on Friday, July 10th, mixed martial arts pioneer Rumina “Moon Wolf” Sato faces Ulysses “Useless” Gomez. Also in action on Friday, July 10th, against an opponent to be determined, will be The Ultimate Fighter 8’s Vinicius Magalhaes. On Saturday, July 11th, the action continues with a match pitting four-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion and WEC contender Fredson Paixao against 22-time Grapplers Quest champ Jeff “Pipelayer” Glover, and an intriguing showdown between UFC lightweight contender Joe “Daddy” Stevenson and Bill “The Grill” Cooper. The Superfight doubleheaders on both days begin at 1pm.

“For fans of the ground game, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see some of the world’s premier grapplers in one place competing against each other,” said UFC President Dana White.

Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez close to being signed for UFC 104
The long standing rumored bout between Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez has been fueled since Velasquez defeated Cheick Kongo at UFC 99.

The fight is looking to be closer to becoming a reality as sources close to the event confirmed to MMA Madness that the bout has been offered to both camps and is awaiting to be signed from each side for the UFC 104 card in Los Angeles on Oct. 24.

Carwin also confirmed the fight on his Twitter earlier today, stating, "Looks like I'll be fighting October 24 in LA. Good to know"

The winner of the bout is likely to get a title shot at the winner of the Frank Mir-Brock Lesnar heavyweight title fight at UFC 100 on July 11.

Carwin has been out of action since March, nursing injuries. He last defeated Gabriel Gonzaga.

Tito Ortiz Says He's Nearing a Deal with Strikeforce, CBS
Mr. Jenna Jameson, Tito Ortiz, says he is nearing a deal with Strikeforce and CBS. With contracts near completion, Ortiz looks to be back in the cage by October of this year- which would be exactly a year after his back surgery that corrected long-term pain-staking problems.

"My doctor just released me. I feel great. My cardio is great. I'm excited to get back in there. I'm 100-percent, no more pain running down my back.
Hopefully by October I'll be competing. We're finishing the contract I'd say with CBS, Showtime, and Strikeforce and making a deal that UFC can't match."

Ortiz is not looking to have his purse padded or take easy fights though. "I feel sorry for the person they have me fight, but I do need one warm-up fight," he said. "I managed to come off a huge back surgery. It's been a year since I've competed. I think one warm-up fight to get things going."

UFC pioneer Patrick Smith to fight on July 31 card in Salem, NH
Patrick Smith returns to competitive action on July 31 as part of an American Steel Cagefighting card in Salem, NH.

He will be taking Kevin Jordan (11-8), who has also fought in the UFC.

Smith (16-13) has picked up victories over Eric "Butterbean" Esch and Brad Imes, but needs more victories before Dana White and the UFC will pick him up to fight again.

“I’m still here and doing very well. I’m more of an all-around fighter now, not just a good Muay Thai fighter and kick boxer," Smith said in a press release. "My body’s still good. [UFC president] Dana [White] keeps telling me to beat somebody more accomplished. I just beat Brad Imes in 28 seconds. I busted him up and did a lot of things to him in 28 seconds. I don’t know what more I can do. I’m outweighed by a lot every time I fight, but I’m still willing and able to fight anybody."

Smith fought on the first UFC cards, losing to legends Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie in both outings.
